L2L Day D37 Glossop to Delph - 10.5 miles

After breakfast Omar gave Ro and me a lift to Torside reservoir where we picked up the Pennine Way and walked up between Highstone Rocks and Black Tor.

What a fabulous morning - bright sunshine and  crystal clear sky.

We heard our first Cuckoos

At Rakes Rocks we met Jack, Mark and Sandy.

Sandy is originally from Lithuania and has been in the UK for 20 years. She now manages the The Huntsman. Jack is an engineer working in the theatre. Mark (otherwise known as the @thehikingactor) works in tv and has had parts in amongst others, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Coronation St and his currently working on a new drama series. They'd all been out for an early morning walk on the moors and were now on their way home.

While spotting the new Bilberries, we noticed a beautiful Green Hairstreak butterfly

and a

what we think could be a Latticed Heath Moth.

At Laddow Rocks, we branched off and picked our way across the heather towards Chew Reservoir which in the bright sunshine was the stunning colour of Blue Black Quink.

Another Green Hairstreak

Then down the track from the reservoir

We found some shelter to stop for a sandwich picnic of Ro's delicious home made bread and tiffin while watching a couple bouldering.

We then followed the track through the Chew Pieco plantation

towards Dove Stone reservoir.

A Small Blue butterfly.

On the way down into Greenfield, we fell into step with John and Diane.

John had already been out for a round of golf this morning but was out again this afternoon for a walk with Diane who is in training for  6 days on the Camino to be top and tailed with a couple of days r&r in Bilbao and SanSebastian at either end.

Having enjoyed a relaxed pace through the day, it was now after 5 so Ro walked her way back to Stalybridge and home, I continued on to UpperMills

before getting a taxi up to my accommodation at The Old Bell in Delph.

I'd arranged to meet Alan and Rusty at 6.30 and  had a fun evening in their company.

The Old Bell has a world record for the number of Gins (which we didn't sample) but we certainly gave the beers and the zinfandel a run for their money!!
