L2L Day 36 Edale to Glossop - 12.5 miles

I learned from an information board in the hotel that the lead for the white paint in Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring came from the Peak District.

Ro and Omar arrived on the 0935 train from Glossop and after collecting my stuff from the hotel we set off.

A gloriously sunny day.

Walking up from Upper Booth farm we met Chris, a guide for the National Trust.

He described his role as being an information point for visitors on the flora and fauna, geology and history of the national park role as well ensuring that visitors respect the place by keeping dogs on leads etc.
He mentioned that the barn in the background had been used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice.
Chris walks the path most days so we reckon he must be very fit. He also writes the Kinder Scout Facebook page. A busy man.

Jacob's ladder

Before reaching the Edale rocks we found a sheltered spot for some of Ro's delicious 'tiffin'. As Chris caught up with us he'd measured 50mph gusts along the ridge.

At Kinder Downfall, known for its dramatic waterfall, after this dry spell of weather, there was barely a trickle.

We met Mark and Julie from Gravesend members of DFOC Dartford Orienteering Club.

At Mill Hill we diverted from the Pennine Way to find our way across the heather to Harry Hut and Glossop.

At times the gust strength must have been higher than earlier. The wind strength as we walked down off Harry Hut was taking my breath away.

Old Glossop

We walked through Manor Park to the Queens Head in Old Glossop for a quick reviver before the final walk up to Ro and Omar's house where their daughter in law Jane was waiting for us.

Unfortunately I missed Kem by only a few minutes.

After a lovely shower and a delicious supper we could have carried on talking for ages and even managed to fit in an impromptu accordion jam session

with us all having a go at playing Men of Harlech.

My room for the night was the 'Neil Diamond lounge' (a legacy from previous owners) complete with a 'Neil Diamond balcony' and 'Neil Diamond memorabilia shelf' now repurposed.

Ro had been too modest to mention her Fell running successes.

Then deep deep sleep.
