L2L Day 44 Hawes - 4.5 miles

Hawes - and a rest day!!! Ideal!! Our feet definitely feel the need for some r'n'r.

I was woken in the night by the hooting of a Tawny Owl on the tower of the church across the way.
A relaxed breakfast followed by a gentle walk around the town with its good range of independent shops - walking gear, clothes, art shops, a fair number of antiques shops and a great range of cafes and pubs. What more could anybody want?.

Even over breakfast a stream of supercars had pulled past the window but apparently it's motorbikers for whom the place holds greatest appeal.

I was momentarily tempted by the Casual Membership rate!!

Wait a minute!!!! Antiques ????

In the afternoon, we walked a few miles up Hardraw Beck

enjoying the views and watched a large mixed flock of House Martens and Swallows feeding on the insects over the river

The fields by now are full of this year's lambs and calves making their presence felt.

At Hardraw Force we walked up to see the longest 'single-drop' waterfall in the UK. There was a beautifully peaceful atmosphere in the parkland setting.

In the pool beneath the waterfall, we watched a Dipper

feeding and then flying up to it's nest high up on a ledge in the limestone.
